ABOUT PURE SQUID TUBE
A "dirty tube" of Peruvian squid refers to the mantle part of Peruvian squid that has not undergone viscera removal and other processing. It retains the squid’s internal organs, ink sacs, and other structures, presenting an overall cylindrical shape. Typically, it is frozen for preservation and transportation after being caught, and then undergoes a series of subsequent processing to become an edible squid product.
Methods to distinguish the freshness of Peruvian squid dirty tubes are as follows:
1.Abserve the appearance
Color and Luster: The surface of a fresh Peruvian squid dirty tube should show a natural pale pink or off-white color with a glossy sheen. If the surface turns yellow, black, or has numerous spots and loses its luster, it may no longer be fresh.
Eyes: The eyes of a fresh squid should be clear, transparent, and plump. Cloudy or sunken eyes indicate that the squid has been stored for a long time and its freshness has deteriorated.
Overall Shape: A fresh squid dirty tube has a full body, a well-preserved overall shape, and intact, elastic tentacles. If it appears shrunken, dehydrated, with detached or limp tentacles, it may have started to spoil.
2.Touch and feel
Gently press the fleshy part of the squid dirty tube. Fresh squid flesh is firm and elastic, and will quickly spring back after being pressed. If a clear indentation remains and fails to recover, the squid has begun to deteriorate.
3. Smell the Odor
A fresh squid dirty tube should have a faint seawater smell, rather than a pungent ammonia-like odor or other unusual smells. A strong fishy stench indicates that the squid has decomposed and is unfit for consumption.
4. Check the Viscera
If conditions permit, carefully open the squid dirty tube to inspect its viscera. The viscera of fresh squid should be bright white or pale yellow, free of impurities and unusual odors, with an intact and unbroken overall structure. If the viscera have darkened, developed an odor, or broken apart, the squid’s freshness is poor.
